The 85mm club. Join me if you will!

It’s about time I do an equipment review. Many people ask me what I most commonly shoot with and my answer used to be the traditional 50mm 1.8*; however, now that I have been introduced to the beautiful 85mm 1.8 my world has been changed for good. That lens is my baby, I have it with me at all times, even though it is considered a “portrait lens” I continue to have it glued to my side. My parents gifted me this for my high school graduation, (I know I’m spoiled), but I had been researching new lenses to buy that would fit my Canon 70D that is equipped with a full frame sensor for a while until I finally came across the 85mm and could not stop obsessing over it. I think that's maybe why my parents bought it for me so that I would shut up about it; nonetheless, it worked. Now enough of me rambling on, let’s get to the features of this lens:

• Gives the subject a buttery skin tone

• Focal point is extremely accurate

• Because it is a normal or “standard” lens there is not much distortion in the image

• Creates amazing depth of field effects; however if you have the aperture wide open a noticeable vignette will appear, the lens really shines from f/2.8 on

• Focuses very quickly and quietly

• It is small and lightweight

• Admirable performance for an inexpensive price $349 on B&H

• Rich coloring, not as great as the L series lenses in the sense of saturation, but coloring is very accurate and vivid

Like I previously stated, I love my 85mm. It has stayed by my side for the past 4 months. I can’t imagine shooting portraits without it! Below is an example of a senior shoot shot with the 85mm 1.8:
